Alerting Customers to Telephone Deception

This is a notice from the Ichihara Police Department.
Today, in Ichihara City, a person pretended to be from the City Hall and said, "We have a refund for your medical expenses. or "You can get a refund at an ATM. Today in Ichihara City, there have been phone calls from people claiming to be a harbinger of a tax refund scam, such as, "We have a medical expense refund.
After this, the perpetrator will try to lead you to an ATM and ask you to transfer the money.
City Hall staff will not direct you to an ATM.
Also, if you see someone operating an ATM while talking on a cell phone, please notify the staff of your local financial institution.
Please take measures to avoid talking directly to the perpetrator of the scam by using the answering machine function on your home landline phone or setting your phone to reject blocked calls.
If you receive a suspicious call, please report it to the Ichihara Police Station.
