A special exhibition, "Traveling Haniwa: Interregional Interaction in Haniwa Terra-cotta Tomb Figures in Boso" will be held at the Ichihara Museum of History.
The main exhibit at the Ichihara Museum of History, "Haniwa from Yamakura No.1 Tomb" （ designated as a cultural property by Chiba Prefecture ）, was fired at the Ikudezuka （ Oinezuka ） Haniwa kiln in Konosu City, Saitama Prefecture, one of the largest Haniwa workshops in eastern Japan, and brought to far away Ichihara, as research results have shown. The research results have shown that they were burned in haniwa kilns and transported to far away Ichihara.
This special exhibition is named "Travelling Haniwa" because we consider that Haniwa came from Saitama to Chiba as if they were "traveling". The exhibition displays a large number of haniwa from the late Kofun period （ late 6th century ） and provides a realistic picture of haniwa culture and inter-regional exchange in the Boso Peninsula. Various special events will be held during the period.
*The museum will be closed from September 24 （ Tuesday ） to October 11 （ Friday ） due to preparations for the special exhibition.
